Amsterdam Airport Schiphol achieves 100% uptime and exceeds SLAs for six consecutive years

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, a major international airport in the Netherlands, needed a highly available, redundant SCADA/control-system infrastructure to meet a 99.8% uptime SLA for its luggage department after its legacy Johnson Controls system and an interim VMware VSA deployment failed to provide required fault tolerance and fast recovery. Working with reseller Engie, the airport selected StorMagic and its SvSAN software-defined storage to deliver the required high availability.

StorMagic implemented a virtualized two-server solution (two Dell PE520 servers running StorMagic SvSAN with VMware vSphere) with servers placed in separate electrical rooms for redundancy; VMs remain available during failures, clients recover within one minute, and full resynchronization completes in under 20 minutes. The StorMagic SvSAN deployment has delivered 100% uptime for more than six years, exceeded the 99.8% SLA, reduced energy use versus traditional SANs, and avoided downtime penalties.
