CIMMYT Discovers Sustainable Object Storage In Storj Dcs

CIMMYT, the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, needed a reliable and cost-effective way to store and share very large research files—some as large as 7 TB—while keeping them publicly available indefinitely. After a two-year search, the nonprofit research institution turned to Storj Decentralized Cloud Storage (Storj DCS) to meet its needs for low-cost, long-term access and strong data integrity.

With Storj DCS, CIMMYT gained globally distributed object storage with granular access controls, erasure coding, and S3 compatibility, helping preserve file integrity and improve downloads for users in regions with slow or unstable internet connections. CIMMYT said Storj DCS saved it around 90% compared with AWS and is now supporting additional use cases like backups, while helping the organization share research more sustainably and at lower operational cost.
