The RoomPlace, a century-old Midwest furniture retailer with 24 showrooms, faced a sudden crisis when a fire on April 21, 2016 destroyed more than 320,000 sq. ft. of its Woodridge, IL distribution center and all on-site inventory. Although employees evacuated safely, the loss threatened operations just three weeks after the company had completed a full rollout of the STORIS unified commerce platform.

STORIS responded immediately with custom inventory codes, reports and overnight programming to isolate damaged stock, support insurance valuation and prevent misallocation, while accelerating warehouse-management deployment and on-site barcoding expertise. Together they converted a clearance center into a mattress DC in eight days, resumed full shipping within two weeks, opened two additional Chicago-area distribution centers and repurposed Indianapolis space for cross-docking—restoring multi-DC capacity in about a month and minimizing customer disruption.
