Highmark, a healthcare delivery and financing network based in Pittsburgh, PA, was struggling with an outdated code-first and SOA mindset that slowed API work. Highmark used Stoplight’s platform for API design, development, reuse, and visibility, including Explorer, Mocking, Visual Design, and Documentation.

With Stoplight, Highmark shifted to a collaborative design-first approach that brought the right people together sooner and made it easier to prototype and review APIs quickly. In one example, the team moved from ideation to a complete Stoplight prototype in 6 hours, whereas it had previously taken weeks. Highmark also used Stoplight to promote reuse, improve consistency across data models, and accelerate delivery time by giving teams and stakeholders a clearer view of API designs early in development.
