Case Study: SPS Commerce improves API design and developer experience with Stoplight

A Stoplight Case Study

Preview of the SPS Commerce Case Study

SPS Commerce maximized a design-first approach and Stoplight Platform to improve internal developer experience

SPS Commerce, a retail technology company based in Minneapolis, wanted to improve its internal developer experience as it moved toward an API-based platform. The team was dealing with API sprawl, legacy code-first habits, limited reuse of API components, and feedback loops that were too slow for technical product owners.

Using Stoplight Platform and Stoplight’s open-source linting tool, Spectral, SPS Commerce built a design-first API review process with shared documentation, reusable components, and standards enforcement. The company said design reviews that once took weeks could now be completed in an hour or less, while Stoplight’s searchable interface and Component Libraries helped teams find APIs and reuse schemas more efficiently.
