operator in Atlantic Canada reduces reservoir simulation run times by 30x with Stone Ridge Technology

An operator in Atlantic Canada was facing significant delays in its reservoir simulation workflow. Average run times for models with 1-2 million cells ranged from 9 to 11 hours on a CPU-based simulator, creating uncertainty in production forecasting. These long run times motivated the customer to seek a new solution, leading them to the ECHELON software from Stone Ridge Technology.

Stone Ridge Technology implemented its ECHELON software, a GPU-based reservoir simulator built to run on a desktop. Using a low-cost GTX-1080 GPU, the solution reduced all simulation run times to between 22 and 44 minutes while maintaining accuracy. This resulted in a performance improvement of up to 30 times faster, dramatically increasing the operator's efficiency with a minimal hardware investment.
