Eni S.p.A runs Kabosu simulations in about 2 hours with Stone Ridge Technology

Eni S.p.A faced the challenge of simulating its complex Kabosu field, which featured a difficult dual permeability grid with 1.4 million active cells and gas injection. The objective was to achieve simulation runtimes fast enough to perform sensitivity studies within a single working day without losing accuracy. Stone Ridge Technology's ECHELON reservoir simulation software was used to address this.

The solution implemented by Stone Ridge Technology leveraged ECHELON's GPU-optimized compositional formulation to run the model. Using four NVIDIA V100 GPUs, they achieved a model turnaround time of approximately two hours. This allowed for multiple engineering iterations in a workday, significantly enhancing productivity while maintaining robustness and accuracy.
