A Sternum Case Study

Preview of the Large Defense Products and Services Company Case Study

Protecting Against Nation-State Attacks with No Reliance on Internet Connectivity

Large Defense Products and Services Company, a developer of defense products and services, needed to protect a drone system used for intelligence and defense against nation-state and military-grade attackers. Because the drones and ground control unit ran embedded Linux with dockers and operated without internet connectivity, the company needed a security solution with minimal overhead that could work in an isolated environment.

Sternum deployed its Embedded Integrity Verification (EIV™) security technology and remote observability platform to protect the ground unit and drones without cloud dependence. In testing, Sternum prevented command injection, buffer overflow, and use-after-free exploits, while also immediately alerting on anomalous behaviors such as running an unsigned file and changing permissions. The company said Sternum could save more than a year of development for monitoring and security capabilities.
