A Sterling Case Study
Texas A&M University, a large research-intensive institution with more than 69,000 students, needed more comprehensive and accurate criminal background screening than its prior vendor provided. The university was concerned that checks limited to the National Criminal Database, National Sex Offender Registry and the state of Texas missed out-of-state records and length-of-residence information—critical gaps when screening staff and volunteers for Campus Programs for Minors. Texas A&M selected Sterling for more complete background screening coverage.
Sterling implemented expanded criminal background checks and integrated screening services (including Workday integration and a dedicated account team) that delivered more accurate, broader data than the previous provider. Sterling uncovered older issues the former vendor had missed, eliminated invalid records, and provided a vertical support structure for day-to-day needs; according to Rita Bowden, Texas A&M has not seen invalid data in three years and has realized a strong return on investment while improving student safety.
