A Sterling Engineering Case Study
The customer, a custom equipment manufacturer, faced the challenge of designing and building a system to form sheets of carbon fiber composite material into structural profiles for a commercial aircraft fuselage. Sterling Engineering provided engineers to design the custom automation equipment required for this progressive assembly process within the client's compressed schedule.
Sterling Engineering analyzed the necessary forces, temperatures, and pressures to design a specialized pallet and material handling system. The solution involved an automated line where carbon fiber sheets were transported via conveyor between eight separate work cells for processing. Sterling completed the engineering analysis and design, delivering a full documentation package for the client to fabricate the system, which transformed sheets into finished structural components under high temperature and pressure.
