Using Smart Energy Storage to Create More Sustainable and Cost-Efficient Communities

Community Preservation Partners (CPP Housing), which manages more than 60 senior and family affordable housing communities, faced rising utility costs in California that threatened resident affordability and its sustainability goals. To better control energy use and lower bills at two properties, CPP turned to Stem for smart energy storage and utility bill optimization services.

Stem installed 36 kW / 72 kWh energy storage systems (operational Fall 2016) at Bellflower Friendship Manor and the Franco Center, providing energy use modeling, demand charge management, O&M and performance reporting. Stem’s solution reduced grid electricity intake, exceeded its performance guarantees, and delivered measurable savings—about $6,540 annually in total and roughly $120 saved per resident each year—while supporting CPP’s sustainability objectives.
