Top Food Processor, a major US baking and food processing company, needed better software performance to link multiple sites onto a single platform and to improve utility integration and local grid connections to boost returns and shorten time to value. They engaged Stem and its Athena® energy storage optimization platform to tackle these challenges.

Stem deployed a 4 MWh system in Southern California and leveraged Athena’s hourly optimization, automated demand response (DR) and utility bill optimization to co-optimize demand charge management with DR events. The solution, supported by California’s SGIP incentives, delivered on-peak savings that exceeded the company’s performance guarantee by more than 160% between 2020 and 2021.
