Storage, software and solar combine to save ShoEi Foods $72,000 annually

ShoEi Foods USA, Inc., a food processor in Olivehurst, CA, faced high energy use from around‑the‑clock refrigerated warehouses and wanted to reduce costs and improve sustainability. After an initial solar engagement with Synergy Solar, ShoEi worked with Stem to deploy a combined solar-plus-storage energy management solution (Stem’s software + storage) to lower peak demand and qualify for a more favorable utility rate that required staying below a 500 kW maximum for a full year.

Stem installed a 72 kW / 118 kWh battery and its energy‑management software, which detects demand spikes, notifies operators, and automatically discharges stored energy to keep demand under the threshold. With Stem’s system in place, ShoEi successfully switched rates and saved roughly $6,000 per month (~$72,000 annually, ~$720,000 over 10 years); the system has been in commercial operation since September 2013.
