Stem Helps Altus Optimize State Incentive and Capture Wholesale Market Revenue

Altus Power, a Connecticut-based clean electrification company, needed a storage partner for a front-of-meter solar + storage project in Massachusetts that could navigate state incentives and handle the added complexity of a DC-coupled system. Altus chose Stem for its expertise in the Massachusetts energy storage market and its Athena® software for solar-plus-storage optimization.

Stem implemented a 1MW/2MWh battery paired with 2.9MW of solar PV, optimizing the project for Massachusetts’ SMART and Clean Peaks programs while also preparing it for wholesale market participation. As a result, the New Marlborough project is positioned to earn incentive revenue and wholesale market revenues from energy, capacity, reserves, and regulation services through ISO New England, while improving grid support and export performance.
