Santa Rosa Junior College Goes Solar + Storage to Achieve Sustainability Goals

Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC), part of the California Community Colleges System, needed a way to meet aggressive sustainability targets—carbon neutrality by 2030 and zero net energy—while cutting operating costs and minimizing disruptions from wildfire-driven power shutdowns. To address these challenges, SRJC partnered with Stem to deploy a solar-plus-storage solution and energy management software.

Stem installed a 2.6 MW solar carport with a 1.3 MW energy storage system and uses its Athena software to optimize automatic deployment based on rates and consumption. Stem’s solution supplies up to 35% of the campus’s electricity from onsite renewables, enables participation in demand response programs, reduces grid demand and costs, and allows essential buildings to operate independently during grid outages.
