Nation’s Largest Stadiuminstalled Battery Delivers Cost Savings and Flexibility

Dignity Health Sports Park, the 30,000‑seat stadium in Carson, CA operated by AEG, faced highly volatile electricity prices and could not shift public events to avoid peak rates—previously having to buy power when prices were up to 10× higher earlier in the day. To address this, AEG deployed Stem’s AI‑powered energy storage solution (1MW / 2MWh system, operational January 2017) to add flexible on‑site storage and utility bill optimization.

Stem’s intelligent storage automatically charges when electricity is cheap and discharges during expensive peak periods, reducing time‑based energy costs, enabling demand response participation, and minimizing exposure to changing rate structures. The 1MW/2MWh system is digitally linked into Stem’s wider virtual power plant, delivering measurable operational cost savings while supporting greater renewables integration, grid resiliency, and community benefits.
