A Stem Case Study
Financial Statement Services, Inc. (FSSI) is a high-volume printing, mailing, and data-processing company whose facility-level efficiency upgrades still left it exposed to steep utility demand charges (45% of its bill). Facility manager Gene Archer selected Stem — deploying an automated energy storage system and its PowerScope software — after learning about Stem’s no-upfront-cost model and state incentive eligibility to address short-duration peak demand without disrupting operations.
Stem installed a 54 kW software-powered energy storage system integrated with PowerScope to learn, predict, and automatically shave peaks by switching to stored energy. The Stem solution cut average monthly peak demand by about 6%, produced more than $1,500/month in automated summer savings, saved over $8,000 to date, and is projected to add $115,000 to FSSI’s bottom line over ten years (savings-to-costs ratio 2:1), while giving real-time visibility and operational control.
