Steinberg's customer, ABRSM (the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music), had a new online Grade 5 music theory exam but had only released a single sample paper, leaving educators and students with a lack of practice materials. Educator Matt Smith needed to create additional, sophisticated practice papers and workbooks to help students prepare for the exam's specific requirements.

Using Steinberg's Dorico software, Smith created a complete series of practice papers and workbooks. He leveraged Dorico's powerful desktop publishing-like features in Engrave mode, such as separate flows for each music line and flexible text frames, to build complex layouts that included intentional errors for educational purposes. The solution was so effective that the materials were published by Forton Music, filling a critical gap in the market. Steinberg's Dorico enabled the efficient creation of professional-grade resources that provided essential practice for students taking the ABRSM exams.
