A Stealthbits Case Study
Eastern Carver County Schools, a public school district in Minnesota, faced a significant security challenge where external audits repeatedly exposed weaknesses due to over-provisioned privileged access for its system administrators. Their IT staff, led by Information Systems Administrator Craig Larsen, sought an effective Privileged Access Management (PAM) solution that was easier to implement than the complex and expensive alternatives they had evaluated. They turned to vendor Stealthbits for a solution.
Stealthbits implemented its Privileged Activity Manager (SbPAM), which provided just-in-time access to systems, granting admins temporary, elevated privileges only when needed. The solution also included an RDP proxy with monitoring and logging. The deployment by Stealthbits was noted for being simple, clean, on-time, and under budget. The school district achieved its primary goal of enforcing the principle of least privilege, significantly improving its security posture by ensuring privileged access is no longer persistently available to be exploited.
