Barwon Water launch StaySafe for a robust and unified lone worker solution

Barwon Water, Victoria's largest regional urban water corporation serving over 298,000 residents with around 300 staff, launched StaySafe in September 2016 to address gaps in lone worker protection. Prior measures (working-alone registers, keystroke monitoring, radios and phones) proved fragmented, not always used and lacked GPS locating—so Barwon Water chose StaySafe to provide a more robust, unified lone-worker solution and to meet its obligations under the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.

StaySafe was implemented across the entire workforce, with a mandatory two-hour check-in, SMS fallback for low-signal areas and ongoing rollout of custom GIS layers to show assets and high-risk fire zones. Integrated with Barwon Water’s FireReady policy, StaySafe lets the organisation pinpoint staff in relation to fire outbreaks and proactively evacuate when needed; since launch only false alarms have occurred, and StaySafe enabled rapid location of personnel and efficient escalation and resolution.
