Connex, Romania’s leading mobile telecommunications operator, needed a way to analyze large volumes of operational and performance data collected from diverse sources (monitoring tools, logs, SQL Server/Oracle databases, spreadsheets and CSVs). The IT-Infrastructure team’s challenge was to consolidate and analyze these heterogeneous datasets for performance monitoring, capacity planning and to detect recurring and unusual patterns.

Connex implemented STATISTICA Data Miner as a front-end for in-place database processing, visualization and advanced analytics, using automated macros to generate charts and views and applying time-series forecasting, spectrum/ARIMA analysis, regression and neural-network models to uncover correlations and predict future behavior. After nearly two years of use, the solution improved anomaly detection, enabled accurate medium- and long-term forecasts and allowed more efficient system tuning and capacity planning.
