Thorburn Associates, founded in 1992, is an acoustical consulting, technology engineering, and lighting design firm that creates space layouts, facility master plans, and equipment evaluations. The company was running production on aging, physically shared storage with no real virtualization, leaving services vulnerable to single points of failure; they needed virtualization and a hardware‑agnostic shared storage solution to achieve fault tolerance.

Thorburn deployed StarWind Virtual SAN on its existing (partially updated) hardware, taking advantage of StarWind’s Windows‑native integration with Windows Server and Hyper‑V and enabling Windows Server Failover Clustering. The result was unprecedented production uptime and the ability to live‑migrate VMs between two hosts for maintenance or failure protection — all without buying dedicated SAN hardware.
