Case Study: RYOBI South Africa achieves high availability without buying physical SANs with StarWind Software

A StarWind Software Case Study

Stevens & Co Ensures HA Without Buying Physical SANs Thanks to StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)

Stevens & Co (Pty) Ltd, the Midrand-based distributor of Ryobi products in Africa, was running standalone Hyper-V servers with internal storage and began to suffer from inadequate IOPS and a single point of failure. The business needed high availability but vendor options either disappeared (HP StoreVirtual) or were prohibitively expensive (VMware vSAN and hardware SANs).

StarWind Virtual SAN was deployed on the existing nodes to create a true 2-node HeartBeat cluster that mirrors disks and flash between hypervisors without a witness. The hardware- and hypervisor-agnostic solution delivered HA and fault tolerance, scalable growth, and continuous application uptime — all without buying physical SANs or costly infrastructure overhauls.
