A StarWind Software Case Study
PBS Systems, an Alberta-based dealership management software company and one of the largest vendors in Canada, faced an aging, overly complex storage environment: multiple systems (Open-E DSS V7, Microsoft S2D and various JBODs) feeding an 8-node Microsoft Hyper-V cluster over a 10GB+ network. The heterogeneous hardware led to uneven performance, high maintenance costs, unreliability, and a lack of redundancy and automated monitoring.
By deploying StarWind Virtual SAN as a hyperconverged solution in their colocation — reusing existing switches and installing a 2-node StarWind Storage Appliance in active‑active mode with a direct 25GB link — PBS consolidated its storage, eliminated excess hardware, and achieved active‑active replication for continuous availability. The implementation improved performance, reduced rack space and power consumption, added proactive monitoring and vendor support, and delivered reported 100% uptime over the last 12 months.
