Ontario School District gets the previously unavailable opportunity to increase storage capacity with StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN)

Ontario School District, an Oregon education district serving about 2,500 students across seven schools, faced an outdated shared storage setup (HPE StoreVirtual SAN with VMware ESXi). Although the existing SAN provided high availability and disaster recovery, it could only be expanded through significant investment—an impractical option for a budget‑constrained educational organization with rapidly growing data.

The district deployed StarWind Virtual SAN (VSAN) to gain cost‑effective shared storage with high availability, fault tolerance, and no socket/core/feature restrictions, allowing capacity growth without overpayment. StarWind VSAN also enabled cross‑site disaster recovery to maintain service continuity; the IT manager reports it “works great and meets all our needs,” and the district plans to add StarWind Virtual Tape Library for backups.
