A StarWind Software Case Study
Milchwerk Jäger GmbH, a 150‑year‑old German dairy manufacturer producing cheese for export, faced severe IT performance and availability problems. Its legacy setup—standalone Windows Servers with Hyper‑V, Microsoft replication and a Synology SHA cluster (and later an IBM V3700)—suffered an iSCSI bug and SAS limitations that degraded performance (more than four VMs could cripple the system), driving the company to seek a hyperconverged platform.
The company deployed StarWind Virtual SAN and then a StarWind HCI Appliance (HCA) on COTS Dell R640 hardware (2‑node HCA P‑Spec 7.6, 7.6 TB all‑flash, Hyper‑V on Windows Server 2019). StarWind’s full trial, expert tuning and a unique multipath iSCSI configuration eliminated the performance issues, delivered a compact hyperconverged stack, cut IT operating expenses and generated estimated annual savings of $1.5–2 million; Milchwerk now standardizes on StarWind for future systems.
