A StarWind Software Case Study
Lawrence Academy, a historic private boarding school in Groton, MA with about 400 students and roughly 500 IT users, needed a scalable, centrally managed storage solution and a disaster recovery plan that would fit a tight IT budget and reduce the workload on a small IT team. Although the school had HP disk arrays and planned server virtualization, it lacked cost-effective shared storage to support production services and meet DR requirements.
The school deployed StarWind Virtual SAN to turn existing Windows servers into a shared SAN over the campus Ethernet. This provided primary storage for a largely Citrix-based server farm, enabled live migration and centralized management, and freed the IT team from time-consuming on-site tasks. The result was simplified administration, reliable “set-and-forget” operation with no downtime, an affordable disaster recovery capability, and more time for annual upgrades and other projects.
