GHG Corporation Refreshes Its Entire Infrastructure with Two StarWind HCAs

GHG Corporation, a service‑disabled veteran and minority‑owned engineering and IT firm supporting the space industry (and a NASA subcontractor with 30+ years in business), was running a fragile Dell EqualLogic SAN with VMware vSphere ESXi. The environment formed an “inverted pyramid of doom” — only 2–3 hosts, two switches and a single SAN device — creating a single point of failure and limited scalability, while replacing hardware to add redundancy was prohibitively expensive.

GHG deployed two StarWind HyperConverged Appliances (HCAs) to combine CPU, networking and storage into two hosts with synchronous mirroring of disks and flash between hypervisors. The HCAs delivered true fault tolerance and allowed host upgrades without downtime, providing redundancy, flexible up/out scaling and continuous uptime at roughly half the cost of adding Dell SANs and switches — a solution that met requirements and improved operational confidence.
