Case Study: Alfa Adhesives achieves redundancy, improved performance, and lower costs with StarWind Software

A StarWind Software Case Study

Preview of the Alfa Adhesives Case Study

Alfa Adhesives, Inc. improves its business profitability by building a resilient hardware infrastructure around StarWind VSAN

Alfa Adhesives, a New Jersey–based chemical and allied products wholesaler that makes temperature-regulating coatings and water‑based adhesives, needed a more resilient virtualization platform. Its existing Dell EMC PowerEdge VRTX with VMware faced expiring warranties and multiple single points of failure, and the company was concerned about the high cost and 3‑node licensing requirements of typical software‑defined storage solutions while needing affordable virtual shared storage for redundancy and high availability.

Alfa implemented StarWind VSAN on two Dell off‑the‑shelf nodes to build a fully redundant 2‑node system. The solution delivered higher performance, eliminated SPOFs, and proved substantially cheaper than 3‑node SDS alternatives and additional SAN hardware, while providing strong vendor support — enabling immediate cost savings and a platform the company can use for DR or future hardware replacement.
