AAA-9 Achieves High Availability on Existing Hardware without Vendor Lock-In Thanks to StarWind VSAN

Area Agency on Aging Region 9 (AAA-9) is a nonprofit founded in 1975 that supports older adults and people with disabilities with over 120 staff, 2,500 case-managed clients, and assistance to 40,000 people through programs and contracts. Its IT ran on standalone Microsoft Hyper-V hosts and lacked High Availability (HA), but the organization couldn’t justify the cost of physical shared storage and wanted to avoid vendor lock-in.

Working with StarWind, AAA-9 deployed StarWind Virtual SAN on its existing commodity hardware and preserved its preferred hypervisor. The VSAN enabled HA across the cluster, let them spin up a second HA cluster for testing, and is managed through the StarWind Command Center. The result was improved resiliency and scalability, easier management, and significant cost savings versus alternatives like VMware vSAN, Maxta, and Nutanix.
