Moloco reduces query latency from 10 minutes to milliseconds with StarTree

The AdTech company Moloco faced significant challenges with its real-time analytics infrastructure. Their internal dashboards and A/B testing platform were hindered by extremely high query latencies, with complex queries taking up to ten minutes to process due to high data cardinality and the need for multi-dimensional analysis. By implementing Apache Pinot with StarTree's indexing technology, Moloco achieved a dramatic reduction in query latency. StarTree indexes allowed for the pre-aggregation of data, slashing query times from several minutes to milliseconds. Specifically, queries for A/B testing were reduced from five minutes to under two seconds. The solution also provided an idempotent ingestion process and scalable management, enabling Moloco to grow its deployment to over 100 tables. This resulted in substantial productivity gains and empowered the company with true real-time analytics capabilities.
