Hitachi Energy Is Building a Sustainable Future by Connecting Global Teams to Knowledge

Hitachi Energy, a global technology leader with about 40,000 employees across more than 90 countries, faced widespread knowledge silos and undocumented expertise that hindered rapid problem-solving and onboarding. To unify institutional know‑how and give employees real‑time access to subject matter experts, Hitachi Energy partnered with Starmind to deploy a real‑time knowledge network/knowledge management platform.

Starmind’s platform connects employees to relevant experts and searchable, crowd‑sourced answers via web and mobile, enabling self‑resolution and cross‑department collaboration. In the pilot, roughly 1,700 active users posted about 1,700 questions with responses viewed over 20,000 times; participants rated over 85% of answers five stars and nearly 50% of questions were answered within 30 minutes. Hitachi Energy estimates the platform saved more than 10,000 working hours in year one, reduced time spent searching by ~20 minutes/day and seeking colleagues by ~15 minutes/day, and projects $36M in efficiency gains on full rollout (over $85M across three years).
