Medline Industries Inc. Transitions From Paper-based Data Management to Starlims Qm Solution and Sees Immediate Results

Medline Industries, a global manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies, faced an unsustainable paper‑based laboratory workflow that slowed testing, increased manual errors, and complicated regulatory compliance. After a prior LIMS implementation failed to meet needs, Medline selected STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing (QM) laboratory informatics management system as a configurable solution to digitize and automate microbiology testing, data management and instrument calibration across multiple labs.

STARLIMS was rolled out for microbiology QC and instrument calibration at several Medline sites and produced immediate measurable benefits: data recording time dropped 17–33%, certificate generation was ~18.5% faster, and small-site examples translated to estimated savings of $2,730 and $6,678 per year; deviations fell 80% (from 5 to 1 per quarter), manual recording errors were essentially eliminated, and instrument calibration automation saved ~12 minutes per calibration (≈$700 per 100 calibrations) with projected increases to 27 minutes saved and $1,575 per 100 calibrations—delivering faster releases, improved data integrity and an expected positive ROI within three years for Medline using STARLIMS.
