Stardog Empowers the Fight Against Infectious Disease

The National Institutes of Health-backed MIDAS coalition of infectious disease researchers needed a better way to work across hundreds of datasets, papers, applications, and census resources spread across many data silos. Without an effective way to query and connect this information, the team struggled to build holistic disease models efficiently. Stardog helped address this challenge with an ontology-based search and knowledge graph approach.

Stardog partnered with MIDAS to create the MIDAS Digital Commons, a FAIR-aligned digital catalog for infectious disease modeling and epidemiology. The solution lets researchers search across pathogen type, host data, and disease forecasters, with access to over 700 mapped datasets, 62 indexed software applications, and 200+ data-related websites in 28 formats. As a result, hundreds of scientists gained a unified view of relevant resources for diseases like Ebola, Zika, and Malaria, speeding research and making it easier to find and reuse critical data.
