CMSA Central Arizona - Customer Case Study

CMSA Central Arizona, the state chapter of the Case Management Society of America with about 300 local members (part of a national 11,000-member network), faced the common nonprofit challenge of engaging and retaining members while delivering consistent, high-value programming. The chapter needed to centralize and streamline meetings, offer more continuing education units (CEUs), improve communications and its website, and make volunteer workloads manageable so members saw clear benefits from participation.

The board responded with a focused strategy: an annual leadership retreat to set priorities, bi-monthly dinner meetings offering 2.0 CEUs, targeted recruitment (BOGO promotions, student outreach, post-acute provider engagement), hands-on membership outreach by a well-connected Membership Chair, regular email campaigns to 500+ contacts, and active social media. They also adopted StarChapter for website, email automation and reporting, and structured board roles to spread responsibilities. The results included a highly successful annual conference (176 attendees, 84 exhibitors, five new/renewal winners), stronger event engagement and member retention, and a clear roadmap for website and program improvements.
