Peninsula Regional Medical Center Uses Real-Time Location to Improve Specialty Bed Management, Dramatically Reducing Rental Costs

Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) was facing a significant challenge in managing its specialty beds. Staff were spending excessive time searching for this equipment, leading to delayed patient care and costly monthly rentals that often exceeded $6,000. A LEAN Six Sigma initiative revealed the root cause was a lack of visibility into the location of their own owned beds, not an inefficient rental ordering process.

STANLEY Healthcare implemented its AeroScout Real-Time Locating System (RTLS) to provide visibility into bed locations via MobileView software. This solution enabled staff to quickly locate in-house specialty beds, which virtually eliminated the need for rentals and their associated costs. STANLEY Healthcare's system also improved operational efficiency for medical carts and wound vacuums, ensuring equipment was available when needed and rental invoices were accurate.
