A Stamen Case Study
The Exploratorium, a museum, required an engaging and educational interactive exhibit for its ¡Plantásticas! show, focusing on California's plant life. They faced the challenge of presenting a massive plant dataset in a way that would be accessible and interesting to a broad audience, from children to adults. The museum engaged the vendor Stamen to create a solution for this large-scale touch table installation.
Stamen designed an immersive map experience for a 65” touchscreen table, allowing visitors to explore California's plant ecosystems using movable magnifiers. The solution featured two interactive modes: a story mode highlighting human narratives and an explore mode for scientific data. To overcome technical hurdles like remote deployment and multi-touch support, Stamen employed innovative tools and protocols. The resulting exhibit successfully merged art and science, providing a playful yet powerful experience that inspired connections between visitors and the natural world.
