How LUSH Cosmetics Uses User-Generated Content to Transform Customers into an Engaged Community of Brand Advocates

LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics, beloved for colorful bath bombs and skincare, depends on a passionate community of “Lushies.” With limited ad budget and massive volumes of customer posts (hundreds of thousands of tags per month), LUSH needed a scalable way to source, manage and personalize authentic visual content to drive brand awareness and customer engagement.

By partnering with Stackla (Visual UGC by Nosto) to centralize, curate and deploy user-generated content across social and web, LUSH replaced traditional ad spend with authentic customer assets, worked with micro-micro influencers and added ShopSpots to make UGC shoppable. The results were dramatic: UGC outperformed branded content with 1,340% higher reach, 183% more new profiles reached, 53% more clicks and 43% more site traffic; Stackla feeds drove 450% more clicks, a homepage UGC gallery had 1M impressions (a 333% lift) and helped sell out featured products while enabling LUSH to curate 95% of its UGC.
