Brisbane City Council Turned to the Real-Time Power of Social Media During a Crisis

Stackla (Visual UGC by Nosto®) powered a social hub used by the Brisbane City Council during the 2013 Brisbane floods. With social media becoming the primary source of information in a fast-moving crisis, the council faced an overwhelming volume of mixed, often unverified content and needed a centralized, trustworthy way to collect and share accurate updates from official sources.

Using Stackla’s moderation and publishing tools the council built a Stackla-powered hub and a Facebook app to aggregate posts from the Council, Fire Brigade, Police, State Emergency Service, local media and citizens. A small social team monitored and curated the feed, providing a live stream of verified user-generated images and official updates so residents and officials had a single, authentic source for timely information and improved situational awareness.
