To modernize and expand the system during active operation without impairing business, the company partnered with solutions provider SSI SCHAEFER to implement an innovative and space-saving storage and picking solution.

SSI SCHAEFER implemented its patented 3D-MATRIX Solution®, a highly dynamic shuttle-based system installed in a 24-meter-high extension. This solution provided over 60,000 automated storage locations and increased goods-to-person picking stations by 60%, boosting the site's technical performance to around 16 million books per year. The project, which maintained the highest ergonomic standards, resulted in a future-proof system with an optimal performance-to-space ratio, significantly expanding picking capacity within the limited available space.
