Case Study: Coop accelerates e-commerce warehouse launch with SSI Schaefer WAMAS®

Coop Logistics AB, the logistics arm of the Swiss retail giant Coop, faced the sudden and extreme challenge of a massive surge in online grocery orders during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, which pushed its existing e-commerce fulfillment capacities to the breaking point. The company needed to rapidly implement a solution to avoid supply bottlenecks and manage this unprecedented demand. To meet this challenge, they partnered with vendor SSI Schaefer.

SSI Schaefer implemented its WAMAS® warehouse management software to support a completely new 6,000 m² e-commerce warehouse, which was dedicated to handling Coop's top 100 products. Remarkably, the entire facility was set up and commissioned in a record time of just 14 days, enabling over 100 order pickers to begin processing daily online orders almost immediately. This solution successfully neutralized the impending supply bottlenecks, helping Coop's online sales grow from 150 million CHF in 2019 to over 230 million CHF in 2020.
