A SSI Schaefer Case Study
Kloosterboer required a fully automated, high-capacity cold storage facility to expand its operations at the City Terminal Rotterdam. The challenge involved designing and constructing a massive, complex deep-freeze warehouse that could operate at -25°C, support solar panels, and maximize storage capacity while meeting strict sustainability and safety standards. SSI Schaefer was engaged to provide the engineering and supply of the entire steel structure for this state-of-the-art project.
SSI Schaefer engineered and supplied the complete steel construction for the high bay cold storage facility, including a specialized refrigeration platform and a silo design with walls and roof attached directly to the steelwork. This solution, delivered on time through close coordination with multiple subcontractors, created storage for 60,000 pallets. The results included maximized storage capacity, increased efficiency, and enhanced safety. Furthermore, the design supported the installation of 2,700 solar panels, contributing to the client's goal of achieving an outstanding BREEAM sustainability certificate.
