VBH Holding GmbH, Europe's largest retailer of window and door fittings, faced challenges with space-consuming storage and inefficient picking processes in their central warehouse. Their conventional pallet and static racks led to long picker routes and a high rate of errors, negatively impacting customer service. To address this, they turned to vendor SSI Schaefer for an automated solution based on the goods-to-person principle, seeking the SSI LOGIMAT® Vertical Lift Module.

SSI Schaefer implemented ten SSI LOGIMAT® Vertical Lift Modules, which integrated directly with VBH's existing SAP system via the LOGIDRIVER interface. The solution, which includes features like the LOGIPOINTER laser guidance, dramatically reduced picking errors and order throughput times. The results were highly measurable: the system freed up approximately 1,900 m² of space previously used by static racks and now stores 4,600 small parts, representing 30% of their total stock, in a compact area of just 150 m².
