The customer, United Drug, is Ireland's leading pharmaceutical distributor. Faced with continuous growth and a need to maintain market leadership, they required an extension of their Dublin distribution center to significantly increase picking performance. They partnered with vendor SSI SCHAEFER to plan and install an upgraded system that could handle 12,000 order lines per hour while the facility remained operational.

SSI SCHAEFER implemented a modular solution in five steps, integrating automation like an SSI Miniload, an SSI Carousel, and an A-Frame picking system, all controlled by their WAMAS® logistics software. This allowed the expansion to occur without idle time, achieving the goal of 12,000 order lines per hour and processing over 6,000 orders daily. The project was completed within 18 months, optimizing space and increasing picking efficiency within the same warehouse footprint.
