Hema - Customer Case Study

The Dutch retail chain Hema sought to minimize the environmental impact of its logistics operations and maintain supply chain efficiency. To achieve this, they partnered with vendor SSI SCHAEFER to implement a sustainable, closed-loop logistics system using returnable plastic containers.

SSI SCHAEFER supplied Hema with over 800,000 high-quality, foldable plastic containers designed for automated handling. This solution eliminated packaging waste, reduced transport costs by allowing containers to be collapsed for return journeys, and saved time by removing the need to repack goods. The containers have proven extremely durable, with most still in use after many years, and the system has helped Hema significantly reduce its ecological footprint.
