Longchamp - Customer Case Study

Longchamp, a leather goods manufacturer, faced the challenge of creating an intelligent material flow from its finished goods warehouse to the picking area without using a static conveying system. They needed a solution that was highly flexible and optimized for a small space. SSI SCHAEFER addressed this challenge by developing a system centered around automated guided vehicles (AGVs).

The solution implemented by SSI SCHAEFER involved a fleet of its self-organizing AGVs, which transport pallets over 300 meters to four goods-to-person picking stations. These vehicles operate using a decentralized control system and were integrated with new rack systems, a bin conveying system, and the WAMAS® logistics software. This approach reduced the number of short picks and ensured fast, accurate replenishment, guaranteeing that required items are delivered to the correct position promptly after an order is received.
