A Global Manufacturer Secures SSH Connections for the Future with Zero Trust Approach

Global Manufacturing Business, a European‑headquartered manufacturer with more than €10B turnover, ~50,000 employees and 6,500+ servers, faced a major SSH access problem: their in‑house PAM covered only about 20% of SSH connections and an audit failure revealed widespread rogue keys. After discovering over 80,000 SSH keys (66,000 public, 14,000 private) that were largely unmanaged, the Global Manufacturing Business selected the Universal SSH Key Manager (UKM) Zero Trust solution from SSH.COM to remediate the risk.

SSH.COM deployed UKM to map the complete “web of trust,” centrally manage and automate key discovery, monitoring, renewal, revocation and provisioning, and integrate with the existing PAM. UKM enabled a migration to keyless, just‑in‑time ephemeral certificates, putting controls on the discovered >80,000 keys, eliminating many long‑lived keys, drastically reducing management overhead and enabling a future‑proof Zero Trust SSH access model.
