HMI Capital - Customer Case Study

HMI Capital, a San Francisco–based private investment firm launched in 2008 that runs a concentrated, sector-focused strategy (typically 10–12 high‑conviction positions), faced an exploding volume of research data — nearly 300 companies tracked in the first 18 months. The firm’s bottoms-up diligence (often 3–6 months per idea) left research scattered across email, file drawers, shared drives and desktops, making retrieval slow and cumbersome. After evaluating options, HMI Capital selected SS&C Advent’s Tamale RMS to streamline its research management.

SS&C Advent implemented Tamale RMS (including its iPad app) as a central, company‑and‑topic‑organized repository, consolidating data from at least four different locations into one system. The result: dramatically faster retrieval (searches that used to be impossible now take less than a few seconds), reduced workload, more time for analysis and synthesis, better team communication and productive on‑the‑road research posting — benefits HMI describes as moving Tamale from a “nice to have” to a “need to have.”
