Symbion Implements Seamless Order Replenishment with SPS Vendor Enablement Program

Symbion, a Melbourne‑based national healthcare company with more than 1,000 employees and nearly $4 billion in sales, sought to automate purchasing across its Retail Pharmacy and Hospitals units after relying on fax and email with many small and midsized suppliers. To meet order fulfillment goals and gain more timely, accurate data, Symbion required all vendors to transact via EDI and needed a partner to drive supplier adoption.

Symbion partnered with SPS Commerce to run a dedicated vendor enablement program using web‑based EDI, structured rollout and certification phases, and hands‑on supplier support. The program automated key order and shipping exchanges with more than 125 suppliers (about 90 on SPS Fulfillment), exceeded forecasts, improved order and shipment accuracy, reduced stockouts, and gave Symbion better visibility and control over inbound stock and customer communications.
