Spencer Gifts LLC, owner of Spencer’s and Spirit Halloween, operates hundreds of seasonal and year‑round stores across the U.S., Canada and online and works with a global vendor base of more than 460 suppliers. Prior to 2006, fewer than half of those vendors used EDI and the company relied on manual order communications with no efficient way to onboard new suppliers, creating slow, costly and error‑prone ordering processes.

In June 2006 Spencer’s selected SPS Commerce’s SaaS EDI as an outsourced solution to enable small and international vendors, streamline processes and integrate order data into legacy systems. SPS helped implement barcode labeling and a targeted vendor enablement program (35% compliance in the first 12 weeks), and today Spencer’s has 335 vendors connected, processes more than 96% of orders via EDI weekly with about a 1% error rate, and has significantly reduced costs while gaining real‑time visibility into order fulfillment.
